Emergency Appointments

Dental emergencies always seem to happen at the most inconvenient times and places, which is why Petoskey Dental Associates strives to see patients who need emergency dental care the same day they call. We allow extra time in our scheduling for just this situation.

What to do in a dental emergency:

If you find yourself in a situation where you need dental care immediately, there are some steps you can take to keep the situation under control and give you the best possible outcome.

For a cracked tooth:

Rinse the area with warm water to clean it and remove any food or bacteria that may be around. If possible, apply a cold compress to the area to reduce swelling.

For a knocked out tooth:

Try to stay calm. If you can find the tooth, keep it moist by putting it back in your mouth and if possible, back in the socket. Avoid touching the root of the knocked out tooth. If you are unable to put it back in the socket, place it in a glass of milk instead. Those steps may keep your tooth alive long enough for us to place it back in the socket, where it can heal.

For a serious injury:

If your wound is severe and you are bleeding a lot, call 911! You should seek medical attention right away and you shouldn’t be driving if you are losing a lot of blood, in pain, or shaky.
